The August meeting of The Spring Cypress Flute Circle
was hosted at John and Sandy Czerwinski's home in
Spring. We had a turnout of 9 members. We would like
to welcome two new members, Dottie Taylor from Houston
and Vicky Williamson from Spring. In our raffle drawing,
Dottie won a CD "Rhythm to Accompany the Native American
Flute". Thanks to Larry Evans for his donation of
the CD.. In two other drawings, Larry won a "Spirit
Stone" and Vicki Williamson went home with a Rainstick
from Creations Unlimited. The rainstick was decorated
by Mal'ora Navajo and her friends in Tuscon, Arizona.
Larry Evans, with Mockgingbird
Flutes, drove all the way from his home in Euless, Texas to join our circle. He brought more of his flutes for us to try and to buy. We really appreciate Larry for taking his time to drive down to our meetings each month. We really enjoy having him.
There was a lot of playing at the open mic, eating, and visiting. Sandy and Vicky joined together to give a lesson in breathing to our new member, Dottie Taylor. Although Vicky Williamson is new to the NAF, she is an accomplished classical/jazz flute player and a very experienced flute teacher.
She did an excellent job in explaining breathing to Dottie who has never played a wind instrument before.
We discussed getting a group together to attend the
"Flute Mini Retreat" in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, September 23. This event is being put on by the Heart of Cedar Native American Flute Circle". A few members talked about getting a carpool together to drive to Dallas for the day to attend the workshop. If you are interested in attending this event, please
contact us and we'll put you in touch with others that are planning to attend.
Please check the calendar for the next scheduled flute circle and for upcoming events thru the end of 2006.
