Maurice Bigham - Beaumont, Tx.; (409) 834-6283
Maurice, a very sought after flute maker and player,
is a retired business man from West Texas and now resides
in Beaumont with his wife, Nancy. Maurice became interested
in the Native American flute after hearing music during
a visit to the Indian Museum in Denver in the late 1980's.
The music was "Changes" by R. Carlos Nakai. Maurice received
his first flute in 1991, which was a cane flute. As he became
more involved with the Native American flute and it's music,
he began experimenting in making flutes from many kinds
of woods and with different tunings.
Maurice has attended workshops that expand on the history of flutes and flute making. He has done extensive research on the Anasazi flutes and makes them as well as beautiful Native American style flutes. He has attended several workshops with Carlos Nakai in Montana and Colorado. He teaches in workshops in the Dallas area and is a favorite at the Armadillo Retreat in Flower Mound, Texas, every year. He also presents programs in and around the East Texas area for churches and civic clubs. His love and heart for the Native American people is reflected in his beautiful music.

Pinnacle Winds - Flute Maker Michael Jones; Houston, Tx. (713) 515-6604 "I only make flutes from several types bamboo and cane, but also make ocarinas. I personally harvest and prepare locally grown bamboo. In 2004 I started by making a flute from native local-grown rivercane as a special Christmas gift for my sister-in-law. Since then I have made and gifted numerous flutes around the world and have taught bamboo flute making workshops. I actively participate in online groups to assist new flute makers to improve their craft, as well as mine. I consider James Gilliland as a friend and mentor to me in this craft. I am a local member of the Spring/Houston Flute Circle. I am always open to making customized flutes, especially to accomodate special needs of the player as I see this as a way to aid in the proliferation of this wonderful instrument to any player."
